My love of art started at a young age, inspired by my grandmother, local artist Rosalie Prussing. I was further motivated to draw by the various books, movies, and video games that helped me develop a love for fantasy and science fiction. My interests became a unique blend of the beauty of the world around me and what I could imagine in my head.
While I started by filling sketchbooks with pencil drawings, I eventually took my passion digitally. Nowadays, I primarily illustrate on a Wacom tablet connected to my computer. This involves using a stylus to create drawings directly onto the tablet screen. However, I still find joy doodling in my sketchbook occasionally. Recently, I have started to experiment with other traditional media like drawing with inks and painting with watercolor or gouache.
My work is based on my appreciation for the landscapes and nature of Hawaiʻi. These include a variety of my favorite places on Oʻahu, such as Waimanalo Beach, the Koʻolau Mountains, and Manoa Valley. I also occasionally incorporate a unique twist of fantasy in my pieces, oftentimes working dragons into my landscapes or alongside local flora and fauna. My diverse set of interests gives me unique perspectives and helps me come up with lots of ideas when I’m drawing. I’ve even started a series of spam can illustrations!
